Fillings

Composite fillings

During consultations we discuss with patients; the size of the cavity, the location of filling, and what is the best material to use. Sometimes a stronger material is required for the function of the teeth during biting, and sometimes aesthetics of the tooth (i.e. front teeth) are more important and a better looking material is used. We will then monitor the quality of the composite filling during check-ups.

We will first remove the decayed parts of the tooth and clean the affected area, then fill the cavity with material. The visits will usually be 45mins or longer depending on the situation.

The most common filling material we use is composite resin (matched with the shade of your tooth). We fill using a layering technique and then set with a LED-dental light. This will be polished to avoid any unsmooth edges.

Ceramic fillings

It is important to have a dentist assess the area to recommend the best available options during a consult. Sometimes fillings isn’t the best option for the tooth for the best function (i.e. eating, chewing) and therefore other methods (veneers, crowns, onlays etc.) should to be taken which can be discussed with our dentists.

Fillings

Dental fillings are a great way to repair your teeth and restore your smile. Dental fillings are a type of dental treatment that can fix cavities, cracks, or fractures in your teeth. Cavities are holes in your teeth that are caused by bacteria, plaque, and acid. If left untreated, cavities can cause pain, infection, and tooth loss. Dental fillings are made of different materials, such as:

  • Composite resin: This is a white or tooth-coloured material that is made of plastic and glass. It is natural-looking, versatile, and can bond to your tooth structure, but it may wear down faster and stain easier than ceramics.
  • Ceramic (lithium disilicate or hybrid ceramics): This is a white or tooth-coloured material and can mimic the appearance of natural enamel. It is resistant to stains and abrasion, but it may be more brittle and prone to chipping than other materials.
  • Gold: This is a metal that is very resistant to corrosion and wear. It is long-lasting, biocompatible, and aesthetically pleasing, but it is also very expensive and requires more dental visits to place.
  • Amalgam: This is a mixture of silver, tin, copper, and mercury. We prefer to use white fillings at Dental Garden because they are better for the environment and do not produce harmful waste caused by amalgam fillings.

Getting a dental filling is a simple and painless process that usually takes one visit to your dentist. Your dentist will first numb your tooth and the surrounding area with a local anesthetic. Then, they will remove the decayed or damaged part of your tooth with a drill or a laser. Next, they will clean the cavity and fill it with the chosen material. Finally, they will shape and polish the filling to make it fit and look like your natural tooth.

Dental fillings can help you improve your oral health and comfort by stopping the decay process and preventing further damage to your tooth. They can also help you chew better, speak clearer, and smile brighter. If you are interested in getting a dental filling, you should talk to your dental practitioner who can advise you on the best option for you.

Family & Children's Dentistry

Children’s dentistry is a wonderful way to care for your child’s oral health and happiness from their early years to their teens. Dr Frances Ershad speaks to the children on their level to find out their interests and concerns before starting any treatments. She will make it fun and her reassuring tone helps the little ones stay calm and relaxed throughout the visit. We take our time with each patient, explaining all of our tools and processes so the child is aware of what's going on each step of the way. We also give your child an exiting toy or sticker at the end of each visit to reward them for their co-operation, and we have TVs on the ceiling to watch your favourite Netflix, Youtube and Disney shows!

We can help your child with most dental issues they may have, such as cavities, gum problems, injuries, or crooked teeth. We can also teach your child and you how to keep their teeth clean and strong for life.

There are many amazing options for your child’s dental needs, such as:

  • Regular check-ups and cleanings: These are fun and easy visits that let your child see how well their teeth are growing and developing. They also help your child get rid of any germs or dirt on their teeth and make them shine with fluoride or sealants.
  • Restorative dentistry: This is a gentle and effective way to fix any problems your child may have with their teeth, such as cracks, chips, holes, or infections. Your child can get fillings, crowns, or root canal treatments that will make their teeth healthy and beautiful again.
  • Orthodontics: This is a fantastic way to improve your child’s smile by making their teeth straight and aligned. Your child can choose from different types of braces, aligners, or other devices that will move their teeth into the perfect position. Orthodontics can also help your child avoid future troubles with their teeth, gums, or jaws.

Children’s dentistry can give your child the wonderful gift of a healthy and beautiful smile that they will cherish forever. It is a good idea to take your child to see a children’s dentist as soon as their first tooth comes out, or by their first birthday. You can also support your child by brushing their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, limiting sugary foods and drinks, and encouraging them to drink water.
